The Supreme State Security Prosecution (SSSP) Detains More Than 54 Citizens on Charges of Calling for the ‘Revolution of the Joints’

The Supreme State Security Prosecution has interrogated more than 54 citizens since February 5 in connection with cases numbered 816, 846, 847, 849, and 851 of 2025 (Supreme State Security Registry). They have been charged with joining a terrorist group, spreading false news, misusing social media, inciting a terrorist act, promoting the ideas of a terrorist organization, and committing a crime related to terrorist financing.

This comes following the creation of a group on the Telegram app calling for what is known as the “Revolution of the Joints,” which gathered more than 5,000 followers. Some citizens responded by posting videos on their social media accounts criticizing rising prices and the government’s performance, calling for a revolution in protest against the situation, which they named the “Revolution of the Joints.”

The Egyptian Front for Human Rights (EFHR) documented the arrests of the defendants since last December. Most of them were subjected to enforced disappearance for varying periods, reaching up to forty days, in National Security Agency facilities in cities including Mansoura, Alexandria, Mahalla, Damanhour, Shubra El-Kheima, and the National Security facility at Cairo Airport. They were also subjected to severe torture, including electric shocks, blindfolding, and beatings, before being presented to the Supreme State Security Prosecution, which decided to detain them for fifteen days and transfer them to 10th of Ramadan Prison
