The SSSP detains 8 Citizens for hanging banners in support of Gaza, accusing them of joining a terrorist group and spreading false news

The EFHR monitored the decision of the Supreme State Security Prosecution- SSSP to remand approximately eight young men, including a trainee lawyer, Saif Mamdouh Ahmed, in pretrial detention pending Case No. 3862 of 2025 (Supreme State Security). They face charges including joining a terrorist organization and spreading false news.

These young men were arrested for hanging banners in support of Gaza in various public locations, including the stairways leading to Cairo University, on May 4, 2025. They were subsequently detained the following day from their homes. The case includes university students and a newly graduated lawyer.

Investigations in the case began on May 25, 2025. The defendants were subjected to serious violations, including enforced disappearance for over twenty days in facilities belonging to the National Security Agency in El-Marg, Cairo. Several of them were interrogated during their disappearance by National Security officers, and some were severely beaten.
