In the early hours of 7 October 2025, the Supreme State Security Prosecution- SSSP ordered the detention of journalist Safaa Mohamed El-Korbagi for fifteen days pending investigation in Case No. 7256 of 2025 (Supreme State Security), after charging her with: joining a terrorist group, committing a terrorism-financing crime, spreading false news, and using an online platform to disseminate false information.
El-Korbagi had been arrested from her home at dawn on 6 October by a security force, taken to the State Security headquarters in Nasr City, blindfolded, and interrogated. The prosecution confronted her with a Facebook post published on 25 December 2024 under the title “Strange Chalets”, which criticized President Sisi for expelling residents of a village in Matrouh in preparation for selling it.
