The Egyptian Front for Human Rights (EFHR) documented that between mid-September and 1 November, the Supreme State Security Prosecution ordered the pretrial detention of at least 23 individuals in connection with Case Nos. 3723 and 6954 of 2025 (Supreme State Security). The prosecution charged the defendants with joining a terrorist organization aimed at undermining national unity, contempt of one of the divinely revealed religions, and publicly assaulting a religion whose rituals are practiced openly, solely on the basis that some of them had posted videos on the social media platform TikTok expressing non-religious views.
Among the defendants is an individual who was investigated in January of this year in Case No. 3 of 2026, for sharing a video on his Facebook account showing a gathering of Christian المواطنين in Sohag Governorate, who were protesting against the Ministry of Interior in the context of sectarian disputes between Muslims and Christians.
Several of the defendants were subjected to enforced disappearance for periods exceeding thirteen days inside facilities affiliated with the National Security Agency, during which they were reportedly beaten and interrogated in violation of the law. The prosecution continues to renew their pretrial detention for 15-day periods, while they are currently held in 10th of Ramadan Prison (6).
