The Egyptian Front for Human Rights demands the immediate release of Ahmed Abdel Salam Hussein Salem (44 years old, factory owner), a member of the Supreme Body and a deputy of the president of the Strong Egypt Party and chairman of its Industry Committee, who has been held in pre-trial detention in Case No. 352 of 2023 at the Supreme State Security Prosecution. He faces charges of joining a terrorist group and financing it. More than three months have passed since his arrest, during which authorities seized his assets and held him incommunicado for over a month.
On April 10, 2023, security forces apprehended Ahmed Abdel Salam at 1:00 am from his residence, following which they raided his private company’s premises and seized approximately $110,000 related to the company’s operations. He was then taken to an undisclosed location, suspected to be the headquarters of National Security in Sheikh Zayed, where he remained until presented before the Supreme State Security Prosecution on May 17, 2023, after an enforced disappearance lasting 35 days. However, the seized amount from his company was not presented to the prosecution. Subsequently, he was transferred to Abu Zaabal prison after the interrogation at the prosecution.
During his detention, Ahmed Abdel Salam’s health condition has deteriorated due to the harsh conditions, resulting in nerve damage. His lawyer has requested medical examination by a neurologist and an MRI scan to assess his condition in detail, yet the prosecution has not responded so far. It is worth noting that he also suffers from chronic illnesses, including hypertension.
