EFHR monitored on February 14, 2024, the decision of the Supreme State Security Prosecution (SSSP) to renew the detention of Islam Mamoun Massir Mohamed Mamoun and Hazem Ahmed Saeed Ibrahim for 15 days pending investigation in case No. 3036/2023, accusing them of joining a terrorist group, forming a group on the social media platform TikTok with the aim of harming security and insulting state symbols, and spreading false news.
The investigation in the case began on December 28, 2023, after the arrest of the aforementioned defendants and about six others for publishing videos mocking the current president, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, on the social media site TikTok due to his administrative policies causing the deterioration of the economic situation and the difficulty of food costs for citizens.
