EFHR documented on February 21, 2024, the decision of the Supreme State Security Prosecution- SSSP to detain citizen Mohamed Atef Eid Farhat (26 years old – electrician) for fifteen days pending investigation in Case No. 717 of 2024, after he was accused of joining a terrorist group, spreading false news, and misusing social media platforms. This came as a result of his posting on social media under the hashtag “Get out” on February 16, calling for support for Palestine and demanding an end to the regime. Mohamed Atef was arrested from his home on February 16, 2024, and taken to a facility belonging to the National Security Agency, where he remained for five days before being presented to the SSSP.
Additionally, investigation was conducted with citizen Mohamed Ali Ahmed (40 years old – employee at the Businessmen’s Association in Kafr Sakr) in connection with the aforementioned case on February 18, 2024. The prosecution charged him with joining a terrorist group, spreading false news, and misusing social media platforms. This was due to posts mocking President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Mohamed Ali was arrested from his home in Kafr Sakr on February 13 and detained in a facility belonging to the National Security Agency until being presented to the SSSP, with printed materials containing publications mocking President Sisi seized.
